Hope

A great man said: “hope is not blind optimism, it’s not ignoring the enormity of the task ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path. It’s not sitting on the sidelines or shirking from a fight. Hope is that thing inside us, that insists despite all evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us if we have the courage to reach for it, and to work for it. Hope is the belief that destiny will not be written for us, but by us, by the men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is, who have the courage to remake the world as it should be”.

Although this was from Barrack Obama’s re-election speech last year it is true of hope in general; hope for a better life, hope for love, hope in success, hope for a better future. Hope covers a wide spectrum of ideologies, beliefs and faith. Hope is that very thing which creates that inner power we all have, resilience. With hope the impossible can become possible; hope being that inner power that drives us, that fuels us, that makes us want to succeed, that makes us want to find that unbreakable bond in love.

It is easy to give up without a shadow of doubt of hope when the chips are down, easy to surrender to failure in defeat, easy to say no more. Yes, indeed, no more pain, no more working hard to achieve something getting blown back at every turn but hope and hard work often fall into one.

Hope should never be shunned, because we always have hope and sometimes when the chips are down it is all we have left.

Hope is a magnificent thing, never give up on it.
